Apple iPad (A16) Wi-Fi — Disadvantages

Smartphone editorial team · Updated:

Cons

Our editorial view of this model’s strengths and limitations.

There is no microSD slot, so choose the storage capacity carefully at purchase. Large games and offline videos need more space than reading and browsing.

The pen and keyboard depend on the retail bundle and may be sold separately. If drawing or study is the goal, include these accessories in your budget from the start.

iPadOS cannot replace macOS or Windows in every workflow. Check the apps and plugins you need for work: their tablet versions may offer different features, even when the chip is powerful enough.

This Wi-Fi version has no SIM-based mobile data. Away from a wireless network, you will need to tether your phone.

The screen is limited to 60 Hz. That is fine for reading and video, but scrolling is less smooth than on 90 or 120 Hz tablets.

The LCD cannot match OLED black levels. That difference is worth considering if you often watch films in a dark room.

The display is not fully laminated, leaving a more noticeable gap between the glass and image than on Air or Pro. Apple Intelligence and Apple Pencil Pro are unsupported; pen choices are Apple Pencil USB-C or the first-generation Pencil with an adapter.

USB 2.0 limits large file transfers. Having a USB-C connector does not give this model USB 3.x speeds.

How do we assess advantages and disadvantages?

Our editorial assessment draws on specifications, manufacturer documentation and available material about the model. It does not imply our own laboratory testing. We distinguish physical RAM from virtual expansion; features and box contents can vary by market. Reference prices are conversions; check the store for the final price of an offer.
