The telephoto now has a fixed 70 mm focal length instead of the Xperia 1 VII’s variable 85–170 mm range. Greater magnification uses digital cropping. The larger sensor is a welcome change, but it does not restore continuously variable optical framing.
The manual photo and video modes take time to learn. If you only want automatic shooting, some of the phone’s capabilities may go unused. Try the camera interface before buying to see whether its approach suits you.
The standard European box does not include a charger or USB cable. If you do not already own suitable accessories, budget for them separately. Fast charging requires a USB Power Delivery charger.
