Sony Xperia 1 VII — Advantages

Pros

Our editorial view of this model’s strengths and limitations.

The 85–170 mm variable telephoto gives you more framing options for portraits and distant subjects. A dedicated shutter button, manual controls and 4K recording at up to 120 fps suit people who enjoy taking control of the shot.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite provides headroom for demanding apps, photo editing and games. You also get 5G, Wi-Fi 7 and fast USB with external display output, a useful combination for large files and a phone that doubles as a media hub.

The 6.5-inch OLED combines deep blacks with a 120 Hz refresh rate. Full HD+ keeps text crisp and scrolling feels smooth. The selfie camera sits in the bezel, leaving video and game interfaces free of a camera cutout.

A 3.5 mm jack, front-facing stereo speakers and support for microSD cards up to 2 TB make this a practical media phone. Keep music and videos on a card and plug in wired headphones without an adapter.

Sony promises up to four Android upgrades and six years of security updates from launch. Together with IP65/IP68 protection, that is reassuring if you plan to keep the phone for several years. Support is counted from the model launch, not your purchase date.
